The impact of electronic banking on bank deposits: A study in the Iraqi banking sector

Abstract

The research aims to demonstrate the impact of electronic banking on bank deposits in the Iraqi banking sector for the period 2010-2021, and the extent of the ability of banks to attract bank deposits through their tools represented by (ATMs, points of sale, credit cards), And compare it with a group of neighboring Arab countries,  as electronic banking is one of the modern banking products that help the financial stability of the banking sector, Because it represents an attraction factor for individuals who are outside the banking system through the effort and time it provides and the provision of banking services at a low cost, it also helps to stabilize bank deposits, provide sufficient liquidity that the bank can employ in credit operations, achieve a sufficient level of return, and also helps in Sustainable banking development, and the research adopted the analytical and standard approach for the practical side, using the statistical program (Eviews10) for the period 2010-2021, and the study reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which are: that there is a strong correlation with the presence of a significant effect of electronic banking on bank deposits, as well as the growth and spread of electronic banking tools during the research period, but it does not rise to the level ambitious, and not consistent with the size of the population density, and the study concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which were: The necessity of expanding electronic banking tools and disseminating them on a wide level in the country, and urging government and private banks to shift towards electronic banking.
