Abstract

The fluctuation of the dollar exchange rates has a direct impact on the prices of goods and services that individuals trade in... This affects their standard of living and purchasing power, which then leads to a widening of the poverty gap in a very rich country like Iraq, with its diverse human resources and natural capabilities. The study found that Iraq has been fighting poverty since 2014 in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to completely eradicate poverty, but we note that the poverty rate in Iraq for the year 2022 has reached 25.6%, which is the highest percentage in about 20 years, with the exception of the exceptional period of the Corona virus outbreak. The most important recommendations of the study are to diversify the national economy. Without diversification in the production of the national economy, it will remain vulnerable not only to price and currency fluctuations but also to the loss of opportunities to diversify its national exports, as a means of avoiding dependence
