The pattern of Iraq's foreign trade is a phenomenon linked to the renter economy, which was established since the rise in the importance of the extractive industry in forming Iraq's gross domestic product since the beginning of the seventh decade of the last century, and Iraq has not succeeded in diversifying its renter economy over half a century for several reasons, the most prominent of which is Iraq's entry into conflicts and wars that destroyed infrastructure. After the Iraqi economy moved from a war economy before 2003 to a peace economy after the change of the previous political system, and the beginning of a phase of trade openness with the outside world.
