Abstract

This study aims to determine the nature of the relationship and the extent of artificial intelligence (AI) application as an independent variable, and its impact on job losses in economic institutions. The study was conducted at Amazon, the global e-commerce company, from 2018 to 2024. The researchers adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing data analysis of Amazon's workforce during the period 2018–2024. They also used company statistics and annual reports, recruitment and termination data, required skills, and conducted personal interviews to describe the study's main variables and identify its problems. The data was analyzed to answer the central research question: To what extent do AI applications at Amazon affect traditional job losses among employees? Has this technological shift led to increased unemployment within the company, or has it redirected the workforce towards new jobs requiring advanced skills? To process the data and information, several statistical methods were used, employing readily available statistical software (eViews.12).To test the study's hypotheses and confirm their validity, the study, based on the results of the statistical analysis, reached a number of conclusions, including that artificial intelligence affects the level of job losses in various economic sectors. In particular, the study showed that the percentage of the impact of artificial intelligence on job losses in the global e-commerce company Amazon reached 9%. This percentage is low at present because governments and relevant non-governmental organizations are regularly setting international laws and regulations for the use of artificial intelligence by business institutions and protecting the rights of workers in those institutions. One of the most important conclusions is the need for the state to set clear laws and regulations for the use of artificial intelligence technologies by business institutions and the necessity of protecting the rights of workers in those institutions.
