Abstract

The availability of transportation is a critical factor in the success of education. Transfer is necessary to have students attend classes regularly. The existence of transportation problems leads to students being late and absent from the lecture halls, which in turn negatively affect their academic levels and deprive them of the planned educational programs. This study examines transportation problems for students in the city of Erbil. By focusing on the cost of transferring students and the effects of transportation problems on students ’attendance at universities and taking the Faculty of Administration and Economics at Salahuddin University as a model. Data were collected using a survey, in which random samples were used. Percentages were used as a statistical method for data analysis. The results indicate that the transportation system has major implications for the educational level of students. It causes some students to be absent from the first periods in the morning, and they escape from the afternoon sessions while trying to get an appropriate transportation. The study recommends that the government build a modern complex that brings together most universities and students. In addition to applying the central place theory that accommodates a large number of university students. Moreover, it is the responsibility of the government to provide appropriate transportation such as minibuses to students. Providing financial assistance to students is another issue that needs to be considered, especially for students who are unable to afford transportation.
