Analysis of the impact of economic freedom in enhancing food security indicators for a sample of ASEAN countries for the period (2015-2020)

Abstract

The study analyzed the impact of economic freedom in enhancing food security indicators for a sample of ASEAN bloc countries for the period (2015-2020). The problem of the study lies in the following question: Is there an impact of economic freedom on the food security of the ASEAN countries (Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam) for the period (2015-2020), and the hypothesis of the study is that there is a direct effect of economic freedom on the food security of the ASEAN countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam ). The study reached a number of conclusions, the most important of which are: that a slight decrease in the economic freedom of Singapore led to the largest decrease in food security in this country, and this negatively affects the lives of the population in this country, especially after the emergence of the Corona pandemic. As well as a small increase in the degree of economic freedom in Malaysia, which led to a greater increase in food security, and thus it appears that the increase in economic freedom in Malaysia leads to an increase in economic welfare in this country, and that the annual growth rate of the degree of economic freedom in Vietnam is positive, and this means the effect of positively on food security in Vietnam. It indicates the existence of a direct relationship between the degree of economic freedom and food security in Vietnam, and based on the conclusions we recommend the following: It is possible to benefit from the indicators of economic freedom and food security and their positive effects, with the aim of achieving economic development for the ASEAN countries, and it is also for the Iraqi Ministry of Planning to undertake By providing the necessary data to the Fraser Foundation with the aim of increasing cooperation to determine and classify degrees of economic freedom and its indicators in order to enhance food security in Iraq in the future.
