The role of vocational education in sustainable development in Iraq for the period (2000 – 2020)

This research aims to advocate the adoption of new policies based on enhancing the role of vocational education in sustainable development, after vocational education in Iraq faced a set of crises and challenges that hindered its role in achieving the goals of sustainable development, foremost of which are external shocks and the decline in the level of development performance. These factors disrupt the production sectors and the decline in the support provided for the development of vocational education, and all of this resulted in the poor keeping up of the outputs of vocational education with developments in vocational and technical knowledge, as well as their poor compatibility with the requirements of the labor market. The weakness of the role of vocational education in achieving the goals of sustainable development in Iraq is due to the focus on the role of oil wealth and the neglect of the role of human capital. To achieve this hypothesis, the deductive approach was adopted, using the descriptive analytical method. The interest in the oil resource led to a weakening of interest in adopting policies related to the development of the sectors of the economy, including policies related to the education sector in general and vocational education in particular.
