Conditions for achieving sustainable development in Iraq after 2003, an analytical study

Abstract

Sustainable development in countries with rentier economies faces many problems and obstacles, as developed and capitalist countries do not face these obstacles. The most important of these obstacles is development financing, as countries with rentier economies depend on one product to finance the state’s financial revenues, and achieving sustainable development goals is a requirement. Internationally, all countries of the world seek to achieve it, and sustainable development can improve the country’s reality by knowing the challenges facing the country without depleting the country’s wealth and natural resources and depriving future generations of them because human beings are the goal of development. The research aims to study and analyze achieving the conditions for sustainable development in Iraq for advancement. The reality of the country through knowing the challenges facing the country without depleting the country’s wealth and natural resources and depriving future generations of them because the human being is the goal of development. Sustainable development also means the rationalization or optimal employment of renewable economic resources in a way that does not lead to their annihilation. In addition, sustainable development requires the consumption of non-energy sources. Renewed slowly, as humans have a major role in sustainable development, as they are the basis for planning and consumption. One of the conclusions was that there is a clear deficiency in the indicators of sustainable development in Iraq, whether on the economic, social, environmental, or institutional side. One of the most important recommendations is to address the deficiency. Aspects of sustainable development, require the provision of political and societal management that prepares the appropriate ground for launching sustainable development. Economic development indicators witnessed a clear deterioration in Iraq in the eighties and nineties of the last century as a result of the wars that Iraq fought as well as the economic blockade that Iraq was subjected to. However, after 2003 and the abandonment of... Iraq, based on the socialist system and following the free market system, has developed levels of sustainable development, but it has not reached the required level yet.
