Abstract

The idea of ​​investing in sustainable smart cities expresses an economic social, environmental and cultural vision by creating innovative activities, that were not present in the past aimed at achieving sustainability by using renewable resources and reducing the consumption of depleted resources and reducing. environmental pollution Through this research paper, the concept of smart cities and its relationship to sustainability will be presented by reviewing the Emirati experience in this field with a focus on the Masder city as a model and a statement of the most important projects that have been completed and its reflection on the urban, economic, social and environmental reality in the United ArabEmirates. Important findings of the research is that the United Arab Emirates is one of the leading Arab countries in the field of producing and building smart cities, and its efforts were clear in investing in such cities, especially in Masdar City through its focus on providing the infrastructure and the appropriate legislative environment to attract capital and industries.  With high technologies, especially in the field of investment in renewable energy, which contributes to diversifying the local economy and achieving a clean environment of pollutants, such as solar farms, water heaters, the use of smart transportation, carbon management … etc., which contributed to reducing waste of depleted resources and reducing pollution rates.

The researchers recommend the need to expand investment in communication and information technology that relies on modern information technology as the basis on which smart cities are based, and to encourage cooperation with developed countries, to benefit from international experiences in building sustainable smart cities.
